FMG sets Symposium for March in New Orleans
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 9, 2009
HIGH POINT — The Furniture Marketing Group will hold its annual Symposium March 7-10 in New Orleans at the Hilton Riverside hotel.
Similar to last year, FMG's event will be held in association with Nationwide Marketing Group's PrimeTime — an appliance, electronics and furniture show for Nationwide buying group members.
Symposium events will include panel discussions, retail best idea sessions, vendor roundtables and guest speakers. FMG members also will join Nationwide members in group educational sessions called PrimeTime University.
“Since we are obviously in the middle of an economic recession, this year the majority of the business sessions will focus on providing best practice tips for furniture retailers during an economic downturn,” said FMG Executive Director Mike Herschel.
Daniel Abramson of StaffDynamics will lead a seminar on the problems of hiring for skills and firing based on personality.
Joe Milevsky of JRM Sales and Management will discuss “How to Survive Tough Times,” advising business owners on how to minimize their focus on issues they can't control. He'll also talk about merchandising, productivity and safety, and the six areas of business that must be consistent with each other.
FMG is a High Point-based buying group with 82 retail members with more than 550 stores in North America.
