Singapore show organizers expect attendance to be up

SINGAPORE — Despite a less-than-rosy global outlook, organizers of the International Furniture Fair Singapore 2009/26th ASEAN Furniture Show say they expect to see more buyers at the March 9-12 event.
Pre-registration is up nearly 5% from the same period last year, officials said. They estimate that 18,000 visitors from more than 100 countries are expected to attend the show.
More than 500 exhibitors from 34 countries will display residential indoor and outdoor furniture, as well as office furniture. According to a news release, 96% of the 196,850 square feet of exhibition space is already booked.
Show officials attributed the expected turnout to exhibitors wanting to participate in major international trade fairs that boast an expansive range of furniture along with the right mix of exhibitors and buyers.
Among the major exhibitors will be Hong Kong-based Kenas Pacific and Halo Asia, China-based Zhejiang UE Furniture and EM Export, and Singapore-based Koda Ltd.
In addition, first-time exhibitors will make up nearly a third of the participants, coming from 23 countries including Australia, Belgium, France, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and countries in Southeast Asia.
Tony Pang, chairman of the show advisory panel, said the strength of international exhibitors “clearly demonstrates their confidence in our show as a highly effective marketing platform.”
