CEDAR GROVE, N.J. — The Metropolitan Furnishings Assn. presented its highest honor, the Howard Liveright Memorial Award, to Louis Massood, executive vice president of MGM Transport, at its annual holiday gala in December.
The Liveright award, established in 1961, acknowledges outstanding contributions to the industry.
Other honorees for 2008 were:
•Yoav Meron, a sales representative for Vaughan-Bassett, was named the E. Louis Billington Sr. Memorial Salesman of the Year for his service to the industry.
• Arthur and Lynn Kaplan, owners of Palisade Furniture, Englewood, N.J., were recognized as Retailer of the Year. Their 85-year-old business is the oldest family-run furniture store in Bergen County, N.J. The award, selected by the MFA members, recognizes a retailer's congeniality and professional relationship with sales reps.
• Amy Berkowitz of Hackettstown Trading Post, Hackettstown, N.J., was named Outstanding Young Retailer. Berkowitz, who joined the store in October 2001 as “manager, buyer, administrative assistant, top salesperson, cleaning lady and everything in between,” today runs the business.
• Donald Isaacman of United Bank Card received the 2008 Service Award for his contributions to retailers, the association and its administrators.
Also at the meeting, new members Chris Clarizio, Klaussner; Chris DeLisa, Standard; Brad Pyne, AICO and Jofran; and Larry Tennen, MGM Transport, were sworn in.
