HIGH POINT —Doug Payne of Stanley Furniture has been named the American Furniture Manufacturers Assn. Finance Division's Forecaster of the Year.
Payne, Stanley's senior vice president of finance and administration, made a series of predictions about the economy and the industry at the Finance Division's Economic Outlook Conference in December 2000. At the 2001 conference, he was honored for making the most accurate forecast.
Slumberland
LITTLE CANADA , Minn. — Two Slumberland executives, Michael Larson and Keith Freeburg, have been designated Certified Franchise Executives by the Institute of Certified Franchise Executives, an affiliate of the International Franchise Assn. Educational Foundation.
Larson is the director of franchise development for Slumberland, a Top 100 retailer. Freeburg is the executive director of franchising.
The CFE program offers candidates education, industry recognition, peer-level networking and professional standing.
World Imports
PHILADELPHIA — World Imports Ltd. has honored Steve Friedland, representative for the Baltimore/Washington area, as its salesman of the year. Other sales achievement awards given at the company's recent awards banquet went to Harold Kornfeld, Halsey Josephson, Barry Linton, Barry Lipman, Rich Silverman, Jim Barrat and Steve Friedland. -

VANCOUVER , Wash. —Stuart Shliefer has been elected chairman of the Pacific Furniture Dealers, a buying group of 69 retailers in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington and northern California.
Shliefer, of Shliefer Furniture in Portland, Ore., succeeds Judy Blackledge of Blackledge Furniture in Corvallis, Ore.
Other officers elected at the group's annual meeting are Leonard Johnson, Johnson's Furniture, Newberg, Ore., president; Dave Cavitt, Sadlers, Anchorage, Alaska, vice president; Dale Basso, Globe Furniture, LaGrande, Ore., treasurer; and Al Lyon, Lyon's Furniture, Mount Vernon, Wash., secretary.
NCIDQ
WASHINGTON , D.C. —Shirley Hammond, president of the Decatur, Ala. Design firm Perceptive Designs, has been appointed president of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification. Hammond has been a member of the NCIDQ board of directors for one year as its president-elect.
Hammond succeeds Charlotte S. Jensen, president of the San Diego firm Charlotte Jensen & Associates. Donna Vinning of Houston was appointed president-elect.
The NCIDQ Council of Delegates elected Charlotte Laramore from Marianna, Fla., to serve a two-year term as the public member. Re-elected to serve a two-year term is Judith Harris Fermoile of Reno, Nev. Continuing their terms are Sandra Sober of Tulsa, Okla.; Lynn DeYoung of Huntsville, Ala. and Arlene Dougall of Islington, Ontario. -

ATLANTA —Ken Petke has assumed floor covering buying duties for all Expo Design Center stores. In his new post as global product merchant, he will oversee buying activities for rugs, carpeting and hard-surface products.
He has worked at both the Expo and Home Depot retail divisions of The Home Depot Co. He also worked 10 years at floor covering specialty store chain New York Carpet World. Petke began his floor covering career with DuPont.
