LOS ANGELES — Four leaders of the Berkshire Hathaway furniture retail group will be honored with the City of Hope's Spirit of Life Award at a dinner and gala in High Point April 26, the organization announced Wednesday.
Bill Kimbrell, CEO of Houston-based Star Furniture; Jeff Child, president of Salt Lake City-based R.C. Willey; Irv Blumkin, chairman and CEO of Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha; and Eliot Tatelman, president and CEO of Jordan's Furniture, Avon, Mass., will be recognized alongside manufacturer honoree Aspenhome , which was announced earlier.
This year's awards gala will take place during the spring High Point Market at the Sheraton Greensboro Hotel at Four Seasons in Greensboro, N.C.
City of Hope, a Los Angeles-area research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases, will use the dinner to officially kick off "Imagine the Possibilities," a new campaign designed to raise awareness and support for City of Hope's immunotherapy research program.
Immunotherapy seeks to reprogram the body's immune response system to attack cancer cells in the same way it attacks the common cold. Such research holds great promise for reducing the side effects of traditional cancer treatment such as chemotherapy and radiation, according to City of Hope.
Bill Colegrove, general manager and CEO of Aspenhome, spearheaded the Imagine the Possibilities campaign. The four retail honorees will join the campaign, he said.
"We are truly honored to have these world-class retailers partnering with us to support the research and treatment programs of City of Hope," said Colegrove.
"The home furnishings industry has been a longtime supporter of City of Hope's innovative medical research," said Michael Sandler, director of development, City of Hope. "Especially during these challenging economic times, we truly appreciate the industry's commitment and support for City of Hope."
