Two sales executives leave FurnitureFan
By Brian Carroll -- Furniture Today, March 3, 2002
SUDBURY , Mass. — FurnitureFan has parted ways with two of its sales executives, including Austin Sass, formerly vice president of sales.
Sass ended 18 months with the Web marketing services company over differences in how FurnitureFan should be led and managed, according to Mitch Russo, chief executive officer.
"There were differences in philosophies and in management styles," Russo said.
Sass will not be replaced. Sales Director Steve Gardner will assume some of Sass' responsibilities.
"We have a strong second-in-command," Russo said. "Steve has handled all of our retailers and some of the manufacturers. He will expand his role."
Sass was vice president of sales and marketing at software company Maptech before joining FurnitureFan.
FurnitureFan also has closed its High Point sales office, forcing the departure of Cristina Calabria, the company's southeast regional sales manager.
"We didn't have enough for her to do," Russo said. "It was an experiment with an outside entity — someone in High Point. We found it was no more effective than working directly with manufacturers from our home office."
Russo said it was not a reflection on Calabria, who "worked really hard and did great" during her year-long tenure.
