Ikea hires Miami agency for $40-50M ad campaign

PLYMOUTH MEETING , Pa. — Swedish home furnishing giant Ikea North America has hired Miami-based Crispin Porter + Bogusky to handle its $40 million to $50 million advertising campaign as it embarks on its most aggressive expansion strategy to date.
Last summer, Ikea said it wanted to open 50 North American stores over 10 years — five a year beginning in 2003 — which would give the Top 100 company up to 74 total units on the continent, probably doing $2.9 billion or more in annual furniture, bedding and accessories sales in 2012.
The move would more than triple Ikea's North American store count from 23 today and would include more stores in existing markets as well as new markets.
The agency will begin working on the account this spring.
