Howard Miller working on big expansion of Pennington

By Heath E. Combs -- Furniture Today, February 16, 2009

ZEELAND, Mich. — Howard Miller will expand its licensed collection with home décor television personality Ty Pennington this April, extending it into a “furniture pairing” system that will feature 200 new pieces.

Called Howard Miller Signature Home Furnishings by Ty Pennington, the line will cover upholstery, occasional, dining and bedroom categories. It will be introduced at the spring High Point Market, which opens April 25.

The “pairing” concept of the line is intended to help educate consumers on how best to express their style when decorating their home, according to the company. Consumers will be able to pair and match furniture and accents with a professionally decorated look, easily coordinating the pieces in a variety of ways, officials said.

The line will offer casual, traditional and contemporary pieces. Nine wood finishes will be available, color-matched to 170 fabric choices for upholstery.

“We know that consumers can sometimes get uncomfortable when faced with the challenge of decorating their home. Our partnership with Ty has resulted in a new group of home furnishings and accessories that can alleviate that discomfort,” said Mark Siciliano, marketing director for Howard Miller Total Home.

The company entered the licensing agreement with Pennington last year, introducing home storage furniture and a game and pub table line under the name.

Pennington is best known as the host of ABC's “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
