Kantor takes new role at Macy's

By Carole Sloan -- Furniture Today, February 16, 2009

NEW YORK — Jeff Kantor, president of big ticket, furniture and rugs at Macy's, has been named president and general merchandise manager heading the new Macy's Inc. home furnishings business.

The move is part of a reorganization that also will eliminate the Macy's Home Store, which has been responsible for the buying, merchandising and marketing of home furnishings for Macy's stores nationwide.

In connection with the reorganization, the retailer also has announced a number of other personnel changes.

Tim Adams, who has been chairman and CEO of Macy's Home Store, will become chief private brand officer for Macy's department stores, responsible for the organization that designs, sources and markets the company's private brands.

Laurene Gandolfo has been named executive vice president for home private brands, reporting to Adams. She joined Macy's from sister company Bloomingdale's in November 2004 and moved to Macy's Home Store in August 2006 as senior vice president, home textiles.

Mike Harlin has been named executive vice president and general planning manager for home, reporting to Julie Greiner, who has become chief merchandise planning officer in the new organization. Harlin was senior vice president of planning and replenishment for Macy's Home Store.

Kantor joined the company after Macy's (then Federated Department Stores) acquired May Department Stores in 2005. He had been president of May's Hecht's/Strawbridge's division.

In his new position, which Macy's said will be effective early in the second quarter, Kantor will report to Jeffrey Gennette, who will become chief merchandising officer, responsible for all buying and merchandising functions for Macy's nationwide as well as relations with vendor partners. Gennette is now chairman and CEO of Macy's West.

Michael Gould remains chairman and CEO of Bloomingdale's, which continues to operate as a separate division.

At the divisional merchandise manager level:

  • Bob Weiser is DMM of Big Ticket, which includes furniture, mattresses and rugs. He had been named senior vice president, general merchandise manager for the same area since August.

  • Audrey Schlaepfer, who had been vice president, DMM for tabletop and luggage, is now DMM for home textiles and trim.

  • Lisa Magann is DMM for housewares and confections. She had been senior vice president, mattresses and area rugs, since August.

  • Dana Brown is DMM, tabletop and decorative housewares. She had been vice president, DMM, decorative housewares.
