Natuzzi: Global goliath
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 3, 2002
Natuzzi, churning out a daily total output of an estimated 14,000 seats, is seemingly untouchable as a worldwide upholstery producer.
The company recorded U.S. sales of $297 million for 2000, based on 1,225,800 seats sold.
Natuzzi, thriving on an international scale, operates five production facilities in Italy. It opened similar operations in Brazil, China and Romania in 2001.
Apart from the standard Natuzzi offerings, the company's Italsofa line has taken hold as a promotional brand.
Not content to merely manufacturer furniture — and piggybacking on the success of its Divani & Divani retail franchise operation spread over 21 countries — Natuzzi has opted to make a play for its own retail brand by opening its own flagship store in the United States. The corporately owned unit is scheduled to open in Greensboro, N.C., this fall.
"We want to do all we can to help our retailers become more successful," said Fred Starr, president and chief executive officer of Natuzzi Americas.
