Manufacturers' cut-and-sew jobs to get tax credit
New Legislation passed by Senate Finance Committee
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 18, 2009
JACKSON, Miss. — Furniture manufacturers would get a $2,000 tax credit for each cut-and-sew job they maintain under legislation that passed a key Mississippi Senate committee vote Tuesday, according to a report in the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.
The legislation, endorsed by the Mississippi Furniture Assn., passed the Senate Finance Committee.
Judith Phillips, an analyst for Mississippi State University's Stennis School of Government, said the tax credit would result in a net gain of $4.2 million for the state if existing jobs were saved and more were created.
