Lexington will close N.C. youth BR plant

LEXINGTON, N.C. — Full-line manufacturer Lexington Home Brands plans to close its 600,000-square-foot youth bedroom plant here in early April.
Production will transfer to Lexington's other four plants in Davidson County, N.C.
"We're not eliminating any product, we're combining operations," said Ken Hudson, vice president of human resources. Lexington also is closing its face veneer operation and immediately cutting 18 corporate staff jobs.
The youth bedroom facility, Plant No. 4, employs about 300 workers. Hudson said he hopes that "significantly" fewer than 100 will be laid off, since opportunities exist for promotion and transfer to other plants.
He said Lexington will mothball the facility so it can be reopened as business conditions improve. Last fall, the company closed its plant in Spruce Pine, N.C.
