Quaker offers Kaswere line
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 27, 2002
HIGH POINT — Quaker Fabric introduced at Showtime here its first collection of Kashwere fabrics under a long-term, worldwide, exclusive agreement for decorative/upholstery fabrics and top-of-the-bed textiles.
Kashwere is a microdenier polyester yarn that creates the feel of cashmere while offering the physical properties of heavy-duty fabrics. "It's terrific in its wearability for furniture," said Larry Liebenow, Quaker president and chief executive officer.
The yarn is featured by leading retailers in apparel, accessories and throws.
The Quaker products, about six jacquard designs in the initial collection, will be marketed under the Whitaker label and sell for $17 to $25 per yard.
"The value is clearly there," Liebenow said. "It offers a cashmere type product that provides additional tools for manufacturers who want to differentiate their products."
