Hyundai signs with Vegas

RANCHO DOMINGUEZ, Calif. — Case goods and occasional importer Hyundai Furniture Inds. said it has signed a lease for a 7,500-square-foot showroom at the World Market Center in Las Vegas.
The company also has chosen not to exhibit at the April High Point market, concentrating instead on business in the West and Midwest.
Barry Gross, vice president of sales, said Hyundai will continue to show at San Francisco, but leave that venue when the first Las Vegas show opens, now scheduled for January 2004.
While he didn't rule out returning to High Point, Gross said Hyundai can't currently justify the cost of showing there. Hyundai closed its High Point headquarters and warehouse in November and relocated to the Los Angeles area. Gary Ash also resigned as president then.
"Since we don't have the warehouse in High Point anymore, it didn't pay, at least in the short term, to show in High Point," Gross said.
"The transition has gone well," he added. "We had a record, goal-breaking market in San Francisco last week, and over the next 60 days our pipeline is full of goods."
