NEW YORK — NEW YORK — Gordon Segal, chief executive officer of Northbrook, Ill.-based Crate & Barrel, is the new chairman of the National Retail Federation.
"It is time for the specialty store segment of retailing to become more involved," Segal said. "We don't always have the same point of view as the department stores and mass merchants."
He said that during his two-year term, "the NRF has to work harder to make retail more exciting — to recruit the best people. We need to attract bright young people."
"Gordon has a unique position as a leader," said Tracy Mullin, president and CEO of the NRF. "He will play an important role and is highly visible. He's recognized across the industry as a leader and a brilliant merchant and he has broad contacts."
Other new NRF officers are James Zimmerman of Federated Department Stores, first vice chairman; Arnold Zetcher of Talbots, second vice chairman; and Hill Stockton of Norman Stockton, third vice chairman.
