Furniture Discovery Center names Flynn exec director

HIGH POINT — HIGH POINT — The Furniture Discovery Center here has named Janet Flynn executive director. She will join FDC in February.
Flynn served as member services representative at the National Home Furnishings Assn. for six years and most recently was chapter coordinator.
"Her knowledge of the home furnishings industry and the relationships she's developed are certain to be a tremendous asset," said Kathy Wall, chairman of FDC. "Janet exhibits a refreshing enthusiasm for our industry and we're confident she will play an integral role in the revitalization campaign."
Wall said FDC will undergo major change in the coming months.
"Our board has been re-evaluating virtually everything about the Furniture Discovery Center," she said. "With Janet at the helm, we can begin moving forward with our plans to make the center more relevant to the industry, as well as the community we serve…. She is a successful fundraiser and her skills in that area will be an asset as we work to recreate the center."
Flynn said, "I know the importance of being able to build consensus and raise awareness of an organization, and I understand how to work with, and motivate, volunteers…. I love people, High Point and the furniture industry…. This (job) is a perfect fit."
The FDC, which offers exhibits on furniture design, styling, marketing and production as well as historical and special exhibits, has been visited by almost 100,000 people during its 10 years at the corner of Main and Green streets in downtown High Point.
