Hickory Springs foam plant earns ISO mark

HICKORY, N.C. — HICKORY, N.C. — Hickory Springs' Conover Foam Pouring Plant has earned ISO 9000 certification for its product quality program.
"The reason we took interest in ISO 9000 certification was not based on need," said Bobby Bush, vice president of Hickory Springs' Foam Products Division. "The decision to become ISO 9000 certified was to provide assurance that our quality control program was working properly.
"We already believed that Hickory Springs' flexible polyurethane foam was superior in quality to foam produced by our competitors," he continued. "And now with ISO 9000 certification, we have independent verification that the quality program (at our Conover plant) is exemplary."
The International Standards Organization is a worldwide federation of 130 nation's standards bodies.
Since its founding in 1946, the group has published generic guidelines designed to facilitate business and quality planning focused on achieving the highest level of customer satisfaction.
"We accepted the ISO 9000 challenge to prove to ourselves that our existing quality practices were thorough and precise," said Dr. Doug Sullivan, Hickory Springs' director of foam technology. "Although the ISO 9000 certification procedure was laborious, only minor improvements were required in our existing quality program to meet ISO 9000 standards."
