Canadian credit service created

TORONTO — TORONTO — A new national credit information agency for Canadian furniture factories has been established, thanks to an agreement between the Ontario and Quebec furniture manufacturers associations.
The new entity, tentatively called the Canadian Furniture Industry Credit Information Service, began operations on Jan. 1.
It is operated by the Quebec Furniture Manufacturers Assn.'s existing Montreal-based credit information department, managed and marketed by André Bergeron and administered by Dianne Larocque.
"Over 100 manufacturers from across the country will be exchanging credit information on a monthly basis," Bergeron said.
The service already has members of Furniture West on its client list.
The Ontario factory group had contracted out its credit service.
Bergeron said the service already operates in both English and French and has an active database of retailers in Canada and the United States. The immediate priority is to enlarge the client list.
"We're going to be aggressively marketing the service to manufacturers across Canada," Bergeron said.
The new service is the result of months of negotiations between the Ontario and Quebec factory groups. Many industry leaders said the new service is both wanted and needed and shows that the industry can work together.
