HIGH POINT — HIGH POINT — The American Furniture Manufacturers Assn. will hold workshops on Workplace Security in Today's Environment on Feb. 19 in Hickory, N.C., and Feb. 20 in Greensboro, N.C.
"In light of the events of Sept. 11 and subsequent developments, all types of organizations across the country are becoming more security conscious," said White Watkins, AFMA's vice president of human resources and safety. "Workplace security has taken on even greater importance, and companies need a more heightened awareness of the potential for danger."
Speaking at the workshops will be Atlanta attorney James Wimberly Jr., and Greg Norred and Charles Simmons, CEO and vice president of field operations, respectively, of Norred & Associates, a corporate security and investigations firm in Atlanta.
Their presentations are targeted at human resources executives, safety managers, vice presidents of manufacturing and finance, plant managers, superintendents, engineers, nurses and maintenance personnel.
Topics will include evaluations of disaster management plans; workplace violence policies; responses to threats, hate messages and the like; responses to violent situations; dealing with disturbed employees; responding to reports of biological or chemical terrorism; dealing with suspicious mail or packages; and identifying high-risk situations.
