Tilley named to run Pennsylvania House
By Powell Slaughter -- Furniture Today, January 6, 2002
MONROE, Mich. — Industry veteran Tom Tilley has been named president of manufacturer Pennsylvania House, replacing Ken Fonville, who has resigned.
Fonville had been president of the company, now part of La-Z-Boy, since 1996. He could not be reached for comment last week.
In another move, La-Z-Boy has promoted Bill Johnson to the new position of senior vice president of manufacturing for La-Z-Boy's Case Goods Group. Johnson had been senior vice president of operations at Kincaid, a La-Z-Boy company.
Tilley joined the group in 1995, when it was part of Ladd Furniture, as vice president of case goods merchandising. La-Z-Boy acquired Ladd two years ago.
Previously, Tilley had spent six years as senior vice president of home furnishings operations for Century Furniture and six years as senior vice president of product development for Masco Home Furnishings. Earlier, he was with Armstrong, where for eight years he directed wood product and marketing programs at Thomasville, then a subsidiary of Armstrong.
"His broad furniture background and strong management skills make him and excellent choice," said Don Mitchell, president of La-Z-Boy Case Goods. "We appreciate the contributions Ken Fonville has made to Pennsylvania House during his tenure as president and wish him well as he moves forward with his career."
Johnson, a 31-year industry veteran who has been with Kincaid since 1995 and previously was with Broyhill and Singer, reports to Mitchell. Johnson is responsible for purchasing, scheduling and consolidation of operations in the Case Goods Group, which includes American Drew, American of Martinsville, Hammary, Kincaid, Lea Inds. and Pennsylvania House.
