About Arbek leaving San Fran...
An article appeared in Furniture/Today (Jan. 7, page 2, "Arbek leaves San Fran, will show at factory") that did not fully represent Arbek's views on our many years of tenancy at the San Francisco Mart.
In our interview with the editorial staff of Furniture/Today, many topics were covered. Unfortunately, some of the items in this article may have presented some misconceptions about Arbek's decision to leave the San Francisco Mart.
The truth is that Arbek has enjoyed many years of success at the San Francisco Mart, and our showroom there contributed greatly to our growth, especially in the 1990s. From our base at the Mart, we were able to expand to a High Point showroom, but we never forgot our roots at the center for the home furnishings industry in the West.
The management of the San Francisco Mart has always been supportive of our success, acting as a partner on many occasions. We have only the highest regard for the Mart and its role in making Arbek an international company. Our announced departure from the Mart had nothing to do with the World Market Center (in Las Vegas) or any other market.
We have made a strategic decision to show our expanding line of merchandise at our factory showroom in Chino, Calif. Indeed, we may elect to return to the San Francisco Mart at a future date when our needs change.
As for the World Market Center in Las Vegas, I want to make our views clear. Arbek is a California manufacturer which has to look at every opportunity to exhibit its products. We have had positive conversations with the World Market Center. However, as I have stated, our immediate strategy is to exhibit our products in Chino and in High Point.
I thought it was my responsibility to set the record straight. In no way do we have any negative views of the San Francisco Mart; we value their friendship and support. I would personally like to dispel any views to the contrary.
