N.C. festival off until '03
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 10, 2002
High Point — The North Carolina Furnishings Festival has been canceled for this year after a decision by its board of directors to reassess its objectives.
The four-year-old festival, which pays homage to the area's relationship to the furniture industry, will be revamped and restaged sometime in 2003, according to Clif Taylor, festival board chairman and general manager of the Radisson Hotel. The festival's name, theme, dates and locations are all under review.
The event, which has been held in August, was intended as a statewide celebration. However, the fledgling operation drew less than half of the 20,000 people anticipated.
About 20 furniture manufacturers, suppliers and organizations sponsored or volunteered at the event. None of the sponsors have said they will withdraw because of the one-year postponement.
