AFMA to assess U.S. manufacturing
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 10, 2002
Greensboro, N.C. — The American Furniture Manufacturers Assn. will conduct two surveys this year to better understand where U.S. manufacturing stands in a marketplace that has seen better economic days and a steady increase in imports.
Farooq Kathwari, chairman and chief executive officer of Ethan Allen and this year's AFMA president, told an audience at the AFMA Marketing Division meeting here that the studies are an important first step to understanding "where we are" so the industry can set its priorities.
"It's better for us to do it than have Wall Street tell us what's happening in our own industry," Kathwari said.
The AFMA plans to study the challenges and opportunities of manufacturing in the United States and the changing environment at retail.
Details about how the studies will conducted have yet to be determined, but the AFMA has set a November deadline so the results can be ready for the association's annual meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Complete coverage of the Marketing Division meeting will appear in Furniture/Today's Feb. 18 issue.
