Habersham to debut Plaza Hotel wood line

Toccoa, Ga. — The Plaza Hotel in New York City has chosen Habersham as its home furnishings licensee, and the furniture maker will launch the Plaza collection at the April market with case goods, occasional and home entertainment pieces.
Joyce Eddy, founder and chairman of Habersham, which marks its 30th anniversary in March, said the collection will feature a variety of designs, some hand painted, inspired by the style and spirit of the famed hotel.
"From the luxurious architecture of its guest rooms, suites and ballrooms to the grand lifestyles and history its very name evokes, the Plaza has provided tremendous inspiration for our artists and designers," she said.
The Plaza opened in 1907 at Fifth Avenue and Central Park South.
"We knew that Habersham would be able to create the stately designs and rich looks the Plaza collection demands," said Tom Civitano, Plaza executive vice president of marketing, citing the manufacturer's "reputation for meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail."
This is Habersham's second licensing deal. At the October 2000 High Point market, the company unveiled the Claude Monet collection through an arrangement with the Claude Monet Museum in Giverny, France.
As with Claude Monet, the Plaza collection will hit high-end prices, although exact figures are still being worked out.
Habersham will make wood products. The Plaza is looking at other manufacturers to expand into upholstered furniture. Plaza licensing agent Rob Stone, owner of Stone America Marketing, said he and Plaza officials will attend the April market and make upholstery contacts. Stone said the idea is eventually to include lamps, mirrors, wall coverings, carpet and rugs under the Plaza umbrella.
