Northwest 2002 show canceled

SAN FRANCISCO — SAN FRANCISCO — Universal Shows Inc., which operates the Northwest Home Furnishings Show, has opted to cancel the 2002 show and relocate it to Seattle in 2003.
The 2002 show had been scheduled for March 9-11 in Portland, Ore.
"Although the Portland venue was an easy shopping environment … many of the exhibitors expressed a desire to relocate the show to a larger market base in order to reach a broader range of retailers," said Mike Dean, president of Universal Shows, which is based here.
Dean said exhibitors had expressed concern the recession would hurt attendance at the 2002 show, and it was uncertain if the early March dates could be secured at Portland's Oregon Convention Center for 2003 and beyond.
"After interviewing many manufacturers and retailers that normally attend the Northwest Home Furnishings Show, it became apparent that postponing the 2002 event would secure a strong future for the show," said show manager Joan Stockton.
The dates and location of the 2003 Seattle show have not been set.
