Hank's opens 2nd Florida Home Place store

By Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, December 3, 2001

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Hank's Discount Fine Furniture has opened a Home Place Furniture store here, the second of six new-format stores planned for the Florida Panhandle.

The 28,000-square-foot store is Hank's largest to date, and features midpriced goods from the same resources that supply the 20-store Hank's promotional to midpriced units.

At Home Place, the assortment reaches up to slightly higher price points and features lighter fabrics and finishes best suited for Florida consumers.

Hank's also has opened a 25,000-square-foot warehouse in Pensacola, supporting both the Pensacola store and a Panama City Home Place opened earlier this year.

Key suppliers include Simmons Upholstery, Kemp, Standard, Alan White, Natuzzi, and Therapedic and Spring Air in bedding.

Hank Browne, president of the Top 100 company, said the new store is a $2.5 million investment and is expected to do more than $4 million in annual sales. Total revenues for the 22-store Hank's and Home Place will reach about $60 million this year, he said.

Ranked No. 95 on Furniture/ Today's survey of Top 100 U.S. furniture stores, Hank's generated estimated furniture, bedding and accessory sales last year of $52.8 million, and total revenues of $54.8 million.

Hank's plans to open one or two more Home Place stores in the Florida Panhandle next year.

Separately, Little Rock, Ark.-based Hank's is opening a new North Little Rock Hank's store, more than doubling the size of a closing 13,000-square-foot store in the market and matching the size of the Pensacola Home Place.

The company operates Hank's Discount Fine Furniture stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri and Texas.

This Alan White sectional is part of a successful special-order program for the new Home Place Furniture stores. It's shown here with a contemporary coffee table from Collezione Europa.
The Mission-inspired Country Cove bedroom group in oak solids and veneers from Kemp is a hot seller at Home Place, with the bed retailing for $399.
