DALTON, Ga. — Don Dark has been named to the new post of vice president of business planning for rug resource United Weavers of America.
He was floor covering buyer for House2Home, the West Coast home decorating superstore chain that is closing. Earlier, he was associated with J.C. Penney and has over 25 years in home furnishings retailing.
United Weavers of America is a relative newcomer to the U.S. rug market, but the company has aggressive plans. "We intend to be a major factor in the United States within five years," said Samir Abu Hadba, general manager.
A division of AIG, a Saudi Arabian-based manufacturer, the U.S. company opened a major distribution center in Dalton in early 2001. "Despite the downturn in the economy, our sales are growing at a double-digit pace," Abu Hadba said.
He said future expansion may include U.S. manufacturing.
United Weavers' immediate plans include expansion of its product and distribution base. Known primarily for value-oriented woven area rugs, the company soon will introduce juvenile-oriented collections and enter the licensing arena, said Abu Hadba.
