Two Sealy employees help carry Olympic torch

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, December 9, 2001

Two Sealy employees helped carry the Olympic torch through this city last week on its journey to Salt Lake City for the Winter Games.

Bobby Hower, a mechanical supervisor from Colorado Springs, Colo., and Maria "Lisa" Dos Reis, a leadperson at the Sealy plant in Randolph, Mass., each carried the flaming scepter two-tenths of a mile.

Employees at all Sealy facilities made nominations for the honor, and Sealy's executive committee made the final choices. Hower and Dos Reis received an expenses-paid trip to North Carolina and received company-wide recognition at Sealy's corporate headquarters near High Point, with Ron Jones, chairman and chief executive officer, hosting a lunch in their honor.

Sealy has a four-year agreement with Olympic Properties of the United States as an Olympic sponsor. As part of the deal, Sealy will supply mattresses for athletes, media and volunteers during the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Jones said the recognition of Hower and Dos Reis was well deserved.

"These two individuals represent all of Sealy's ideals — first, best, most and improving — as well as the Olympic ideals, which is apparent through their long-term dedication, commitment to our success and enthusiasm for their work," he said.
