F/T publisher outlines 'The Perfect Home'
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, December 9, 2001
HIGH POINT — Furniture/Today Publisher Joe Carroll has authored a coffee-table book about one of his favorite subjects — great furniture.
"The Perfect Home — Living in Style" features furniture from 10 high-end manufacturers on 128 large-format pages, with 126 color photos of room settings.
To find out what makes a perfect home, Carroll surveyed furniture designers, interior decorators, teachers, consultants and furniture-designing celebrities, including Alexander Julian, Bob Mackie, Bob Timberlake and Kathy Ireland.
Photos illustrate key elements in furnishing a home such as style, personality, color and light, hospitality and nature. Designers comment on how these elements reflect the interests and personalities of their owners.
"When I walk into a person's home, the interior should be a feast for the eyes," says one designer. "The furniture, fabrics and colors should work together to create an entertaining, stimulating environment." Another says the perfect home "should make the visitor feel welcome and the owner proud."
Carroll said the responses from furniture designers "were articulate, personal and very passionate about the product they create."
"The Perfect Home" is published by The Ashley Group, a division of Furniture/Today's parent company, and distributed by W.W. Norton & Co., New York. It will be available nationally in bookstores in January. It can be ordered now on the Furniture/Today Web site (www.furnituretoday.com) by clicking on the book cover. The price is $39.95 plus shipping and handling.
A sequel, featuring celebrity designer collections, is planned for publication in April.
