Evolving video electronics inspire change in furniture
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 18, 2001
HIGH POINT — HIGH POINT — While conventional televisions are still on the market and still need storage furniture, the new shapes and colors in video electronics have spawned a new generation of entertainment furniture.
The elongated rectangles of the high-definition televisions and their silver-finished cases have inspired furniture to match.
Supplying entertainment furniture that is sold next to the video departments of big-box electronics stores, ready-to-assemble furniture have widened their television stands, made their entertainment centers adjustable and expanded their color palettes.
"We're seeing more design and style coming into entertainment furniture," said Phil Miller, general manager of Creative Interiors. "That is really being driven by the fact that these items are going into an area of the home where you have more traffic, where family and guests are likely to convene. A family that has invested in the latest and greatest television technology is going to want the appropriate furniture."
For some, the "appropriate furniture" is not contemporary finished in a modern metallic silver, but for people who want a consistent look from their electronics components to their furniture, this would be a solution.
Companies such as Gusdorf, Altra Furniture and others have developed the silver or platinum finishes that look at home in electronics superstores.
Of course, more traditional cabinetry in warmer finishes is also available, but producers have adjusted their dimensions to match the latest generation in televisions.
| BRIDGING THE GAP With an adjustable bridge, this entertainment center from Club 8 can accommodate several television sizes. Shown in a wenge finish, it's available in a variety of finishes. |
| EXPANDED FORM The modern industrial look of this entertainment center from Gusdorf works well with the latest styling and coloring of televisions. |
