AFMA resolution supports U.S. war against terrorism
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 18, 2001
NEW YORK — NEW YORK — After passing a resolution at their annual meeting here, American Furniture Manufacturers Assn. members believe they're one of the first U.S. trade groups to formally support the government's efforts to battle terrorism.
Many AFMA members also said they'd take personal actions to back the cause, including helping the families of those serving in the armed forces and doing community volunteer work to take the place of those now too busy with military duty.
AFMA's resolution reads:
"Be it resolved that the American Furniture Manufacturers Assn. proudly pledges its support to our president, George W. Bush, and all those men and women, civilian and military, in our armed forces who are committed to bring to justice all terrorists, wherever located, that threaten the safety, security and freedom of the citizens of these United States of America and all other freedom-loving people throughout the world that have joined with us to carry out this undertaking; and
"Resolved, that this association and its members do hereby publicly evidence our pledge of support to the thousands of men and women who are members of the Reserves and National Guard, many of whom are employed in our industry, as well as active duty soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen; and
"Resolved, that we encourage and solicit similar evidence of support from each and every person and association engaged in the home furnishings industry; and
"Resolved, that we are convinced that every American and every freedom-loving citizen of every other country must stand united until this menace and threat to mankind is ended."
