Seminar to focus on competing with imports
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 4, 2001
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Robert Edwards, a retired North Carolina State University industrial extension agent, and manufacturing consultant Lee Houston are teaming up to present a seminar on keeping U.S. furniture makers competitive with imports.
"Lean Manufacturing," set for Dec. 4, will examine manufacturing and marketing strategies designed to help domestic producers offset foreign plants' labor cost advantage.
The organizers believe that although American companies can't increase labor efficiency enough to compete with $3-per-day wages in countries like China, Indonesia and Vietnam, they can compete by using smarter and more economical ways to make their products.
The one-day seminar will last from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For information call Edwards at (919) 787-2633.
