Sutton to launch consumer furniture buying guide
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 4, 2001
WINSTON-SALEM , N.C. — Veteran furniture designer and executive Charles Sutton plans to launch a publication that he believes is a first — a consumer's guide to buying furniture.
"By broadcasting what is good and right about our industry and defining what is real and true in the furniture world, we will be encouraging people to buy furniture," said Sutton. "Consumers are asking, 'Who are you? Why should I care? What do you offer of real value to me?' And they need answers before they engage in a transaction."
Sutton, who has worked in the industry for more than 20 years and is on the boards of the Furniture Discovery Center and the Bienenstock Furniture Library, is seeking advertising for a planned inaugural issue of Furniture Review: A Consumer Guide to Buying Furniture, to be published in April. He plans to distribute the 130-page publication free to 250,000 consumers.
Retail furniture buyers and other industry insiders will write reviews and features, Sutton said. A Web site will debut at the same time to build a subscription database.
