Choico to distribute Universal in Canada

WATERLOO, Ontario — Case goods manufacturer and importer Donald Choi Canada has acquired the distribution rights, account lists and inventory of Universal Canada.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Donald Choi Canada, which also sells a product line under the Choico brand, will source Universal product directly from Lacquer Craft's factories in the China, said Rob McGuffin, Choico's vice president of sales and marketing. Lacquer Craft acquired Universal from LifeStyle Furnishings International earlier this year.
"We'll run a parallel program to the U.S. in terms of product offerings, merchandising and marketing but we won't have to rely on the U.S. operation to supply the goods," McGuffin said.
Retailers will have the choice of bringing in containers direct or sourcing smaller orders out of Choico's distribution center here. "And pretty soon, we should be able to offer a mixed container from the Orient," McGuffin said.
Choico will move its new Universal lineup into its permanent showroom in the Toronto International Centre in time for the Canadian Home Furnishings Market in January. Because of limited space, the company will present its Choico line in a new temporary space on the show floor.
