Furniture consumers come up empty on gas deal
But La-Z-Boy retailer steps in to reimburse purchases

PORTLAND, Ore. — La-Z-Boy customers are among consumers here that aren't receiving the gas refunds promised with their purchases, because a Florida redemption company allegedly is reneging on the deals, according to a report in The Oregonian newspaper.
Meanwhile, a La-Z-Boy regional manager told The Oregonian that it has taken over the redemption program and will reimburse customers' gas purchases and a $5 fee they spent to register for the program.
According to the report, the Florida Attorney General's office has sued a gas redemption company that has allegedly reneged on promises to rebate gas purchases as part of a promotion with a number of retailers, including the Portland La-Z-Boy stores.
According to the promotion, La-Z-Boy customers were supposed to receive gas rebates alongside their furniture purchase. The Oregonian reported that of the 700 Portland area customers who received the offer last summer, 100 have complained that they have yet to receive the money.
The paper reported that on Feb. 12, the Florida Attorney General sued the gas redemption company for unfair and deceptive business practices. Thus far, the AG has received 950 complaints regarding the promotion, and has filed an injunction to stop the redemption company from offering any more free gas offers, The Oregonian reported.
The paper said that the company operates under various names and Web sites, including Tidewater Marketing Global Consultants, and FreeGasCentral.com or GasolineRedemption.com.
