Ferguson Copeland owner Peter Kennedy dies at 86

NEW YORK — Peter M. Kennedy, majority owner of furniture resources Ferguson Copeland and Guy Chaddock & Co., has died after a short illness. He was 86.
Kennedy also had been an owner of case goods and upholstery manufacturer Drexel Heritage from 1976 to 1986.
A former Air Force member who helped develop the radar system for B-29 bomber wings, he began a career at Wall Street securities firm Dominick & Dominick as a research analyst in the early 1950s and in 1969 became the firm's chairman and CEO.
In 1976, he became a major investor in the leveraged buyout of Drexel Heritage Furnishings from Champion International. He sold the company to Masco Corp. in 1986. In 1996, he invested in startup case goods and upholstery resource Ferguson Copeland, and also was an investor when Ferguson Copeland later acquired case goods manufacturer Guy Chaddock.
Survivors include three sons and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
