Willis family honored at park
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 25, 2001
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Friends, family, city officials and industry colleagues gathered here as the Southern Home Furnishings Assn. honored the Willis family of local retailer Willis Furniture.
SHFA dedicated a seating area in a playground at the ecologically famous park, Mount Trashmore. The area is part of a multimillion-dollar park refurbishment project that will be completed in 2002.
The Willises were honored for their dedication and commitment to the home furnishings industry and to SHFA. Benjamin Willis Jr. has been an SHFA member for more than 30 years and has continued a tradition established by his family in 1954 by sponsoring the annual Willis Award of Merit.
The award, a memorial to John Willis Jr. and his son, Benjamin Willis Sr., honors the outstanding home furnishings retailer in the SHFA area.
SHFA President Rick Stork, Willis Committee Chairman Bob Suddreth and City Council member Reba McClanan were among the speakers at the event.
