By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 23, 2009
Lenoir, N.C. — Lenoir, N.C.— Furniture Transportation Group, a major specialized furniture carrier, has acquired Lance Transport, a Hildebran, N.C.-based furniture carrier.
The acquisition gives Furniture Transport Group, which owns Caldwell Freight Lines, Foothills Trucking and MGM Transport, a larger presence in the Gulf Coast states, the Southwest and South Central regions.
"Lance has done an excellent job of marketing their capabilities in the Gulf States region to the home furnishings industry and their name is well known within their service sphere," said FTG President David Brenner.
Under terms of the deal, Caldwell and Foothills will each take over portions of Lance Transport's coverage areas in the Southeast, while Lance will continue to operate its Houston, Miss., distribution center as a subsidiary of Caldwell.
In addition, Lance's Hildebran distribution center will be consolidated into the FTG/ Caldwell distribution center in Lenoir.
Lance President Greg Skoog and Vice President Alan Dietz will remain with FTG.
"This is an excellent opportunity to grow and improve our services with FTG's expansive national footprint," Skoog said. "It's a big win for our customers."
