Irwin Kahn, owner, retired chairman, Gardner-White
Bloomfield Hills, Mich. — Irwin Kahn, who recently retired as chairman of Top 100 retailer Gardner-White, has died unexpectedly after a brief illness. He was 78.
Kahn began working for the family-owned retailer in the mid-1950s and eventually became the second-generation owner and operator. His daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Steve Tronstein, currently run the business, which has seven stores in the Detroit market.
Besides his daughter, survivors include his wife, Ruth; two sons and a sister.

Dowell C. 'DC' Canada, owner, Bond Furniture
Loveland, Ohio — Dowell C. "DC" Canada, longtime president and owner of retailer Bond Furniture Galleries here, has died. He was 67.
Canada's career at the retailer spanned five decades. He started at age 14 as a delivery boy and progressed to sales, management, partner and in 1985 became full owner with his late wife, June.
In addition, he served 20 years as an auxiliary police officer with the city of Loveland.
Survivors include his son, daughter-in-law, three grandchildren, a sister and a brother. His son, Tim Canada, is vice president of Bond Furniture Galleries and earlier was a senior sales representative for Lane Furniture.
