Robb & Stucky will hold 'sit down for charity' event

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Robb & Stucky hopes its customers and friends will sit down for charity at an event the chain's store here is conducting Dec. 1-15.
Chairs for Chair-ity, held in partnership with the Central Florida Chapter of the Interior Design Society, is an exhibit and a silent and live auction of hand-painted and celebrity-autographed chairs. Proceeds will go to the New York City Firefighters' Relief Fund, an umbrella fund for victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Furniture manufacturers Hancock & Moore, Century, DIA and Lee donated chairs and frames, while Kravat, Fabricut, Artmark, Robert Allen, Stroheim & Roman, Travers and Wal Fab donated fabric. Jim Greene, representing Highland House, made a cash donation for the event.
Celebrity-designed chairs have been created by Cirque du Soleil, Harry P. Leu Gardens, art and design students (one recently drafted to Afghanistan), Southern Ballet and designer Christopher Lowell.
Celebrity signers include Florida State University's Bobby Bowden, baseball great Orel Hershiser and other sports, entertainment and political figures.
A reception at the store, at 351 South State Road 434, Altamonte Springs, from 3 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 15 will include final silent bids and a live auction of select chairs. Local celebrities and artists will attend, as will representatives of police, fire and rescue departments.
