Maloumian saluted by ORIA

PHILADELPHIA — Roy Maloumian, owner of Maloumian Oriental Rugs here, has been named 2001 Retailer of the Year by the Oriental Rug Importers Assn.

Maloumian is the third-generation owner of the business, which was begun here in the 1930s. The business now operates stores in Chestnut Hill, Haverford, Wayne and Center City, Pa. Since 1987, the company has operated a wholesale division with showrooms in Atlanta and High Point.

He is the first Philadelphia rug retailer to win the award.

Nominees for the award are judged on ethical standards, product quality, customer satisfaction, marketing strategy and innovation, sales volume and overall business operations.
