SoHo Today conference on tap for March 21-22
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 11, 2001
Greensboro, N.C. — The 2002 SoHo Today conference, "Strategies for Growth," will be held March 21-22 at the Sheraton Hotel at Four Seasons here.
Geared to retailers and manufacturers of small office/home office furniture, the conference will feature three retail panel discussions focused on how to spark SOHO sales during today's challenging business conditions.
"Since we had to cancel this fall's conference due to the terrorist strikes, we decided to reschedule the event for the spring premarket," said Gary James, editor of SoHo Today. "We're aiming to present much of the original program, plus make a few exciting additions. Our mission is to provide a forum where industry leaders can exchange ideas on what works — and what new opportunities may be emerging."
The furniture store panel includes Bob Seroka, Billy Bob's Gameroom Furniture, Royal Oak, Mich.; and MaryLou Tyler, HOM Furniture, Coon Rapids, Minn.
The mid-market dealer panel features John Romano, MacThrift, Greensboro, N.C.; Ken Millsaps, Castleberry Office Furnishings, Atlanta; and Jerry Birch, SOHO Superior, Cleveland.
The ready-to-assemble specialty store panel includes Mike Simcox, Express Furniture, Akron, Ohio.
Additional panelists will be announced soon.
The conference also will include panel discussions on the resurgence of interest in telecommuting, trends in home design and office design, and how to sell ergonomics.
The ergonomics panel discussion will feature Jeff Lipitz of Total Office Solutions, New York, and Mark Benden of Neutral Posture Ergonomics.
The changing home design/office design panel will feature Gale Steves, former editor of Home magazine, Jeff Schutte of Turnstone and Tony Cantrell of TurnKey Products.
In addition, Connie Post of Connie Post Designs will conduct a session on making an impact with merchandising and display.
During the conference, SoHo Today will present its first-ever SOHO Manufacturer of the Year and SOHO Retailer of the Year awards.
The conference costs $650 per person, including meals and conference materials. The fee doesn't include lodging, but special hotel rates have been arranged. Registration forms are available online at soho-today.com.
