Lending a new name for better service
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 11, 2001
San Francisco — One of the first furniture companies with a spiffy new top level domain name, Zocalo will set up shop in cyberspace at zocalo.biz as soon as the names are cleared by the courts.
Last month, a state court in California blocked the activation of .biz domain names charging that some of them had been assigned through an illegal lottery system. In November last year, the Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers, or ICANN, added seven new domains, including .biz. President Jeremy Sommer said resolution was expected this month.
When .biz goes live, Zocalo will plug in its e-commerce-ready extranet, facilitating "daily communication" with dealers and making it much easier to order parts and marketing materials, for example. Other uses will include checking product availability and accessing shipping information, Sommer said.
Online ordering, for which no timetable has been set, will be added in Phase II.
