Havertys eyes additions
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, October 28, 2001
Atlanta — Havertys said last week it is looking at as many as 10 new stores, including eight HomeLife locations it might take over.
"We see the economic slowdown as a time for opportunistic expansion and we have several sites under consideration," said Jay Slater, president and chief executive officer of the 104-store, Top 100 chain.
Company officials said the new stores would be within the regions where Havertys now operates, mostly in Southern and Central states, but didn't disclose the cities. In the third quarter, the company opened a new store in Naples, Fla., and took over a former Roberds store in Port Richey, Fla., while closing a clearance center in nearby Tampa.
HomeLife and Roberds have been liquidating their properties through bankruptcy court.
