HIGH POINT — Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth, a producer of high-end, traditional upholstery, has expanded its style horizons with the purchase of Directional, a high-end contemporary upholstery maker.
Terms of the sale were not disclosed. Tomlinson bought Directional from CF Group Inc. of Southern Pines, N.C.
With the acquisition, industry veteran Tom Powell has rejoined Directional as president. Directional will operate as a division of Tomlinson, which also owns the contemporary Thomas Roderick line.
"The momentum of this acquisition will establish Thomas Roderick and Directional as significant suppliers to the contemporary furniture market," said Rod Lambeth, president of Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth.
Powell was president of Directional from 1995 until 1999, when he left to found Thomas Roderick.
Powell said he will remain as president of Thomas Roderick, in addition to serving as Directional's president.
He noted the Directional purchase gives Tomlinson strong entries that span the style gamut in upholstery. Together the companies have 150 years of service to the furniture industry, he said.
