Hickory Chair licensed for Mariette Himes Gomez line

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, October 28, 2001

HICKORY, N.C.– High-end upholstery and case goods manufacturer Hickory Chair will produce a furniture line licensed by interior designer Mariette Himes Gomez. The collection will debut at the April 2002 High Point market.

Gomez, elected to the Interior Design Hall of Fame in 1994, is known for combining modern simplicity with luxurious materials and environments. Her collaboration with Hickory Chair will feature premium woods, fine detail, deep, rich finishes and elegant fabrics.

"Mariette brings her modern sense of luxury to timeless, traditional interiors," said Jay Reardon, president of Hickory Chair. "While minimal, her rooms have an attention to details that make a room unique."

Reardon said Gomez's vision meshes with that of Hickory Chair. "We are addressing consumers who seek classic home furnishings with a modern outlook to suit current lifestyle tastes and needs," he said.

Gomez has residential and commercial design projects in the United States and Europe. Her client list includes actor Harrison Ford, business writer Peter Lynch, former American Stock Exchange chairman Arthur Levitt, New York Observer owner Arthur Carter, and film director Ivan Reitman. She designed the Mayflower Inn in Washington, Conn.

Gomez has sold furniture of her own design through her retail showroom in New York City since 1992.

A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and the New York School of Interior Design, Gomez began her career in the design offices of Parish Hadley and Edward Durrell Stone. She opened her own firm, Gomez Design Associates, in 1975.
