By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, October 28, 2001

La-Z-Boy has added a sixth sales region and two regional sales managers as part of a restructuring of its sales regions.

The company has divided its Central sales territory into South Central and North Central and has realigned its West, Midwest, East and Southeast regions.

Al Matthews and Doug Kinde have joined La-Z-Boy as regional managers for the South Central and North Central regions, respectively.

Matthews' region includes Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, western Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado. Prior to joining La-Z-Boy, he the managing partner of Norwalk — The Furniture Idea in Houston. He previously spent 14 years with Havertys in Houston as vice president and manager, and at Havertys in Dallas as merchandise coordinator. He is based in Houston.

Kinde is responsible for sales in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois (except Chicago), Indiana, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Before joining La-Z-Boy, Kinde spent more than 18 years with Simmons, including as director of Beautyrest, and most recently was Southeast regional sales manager. He will be based in Kansas City, Mo.

Both executives report to Ken Salm, vice president of sales for La-Z-Boy Residential.

"We've seen a substantial increase in the volume and number of customers each of our regional sales managers have been responsible for," said Salm. "By restructuring our regions, we will better meet our dealers' needs."

He said the move will give regional managers more time to devote to their regions and will ensure that sale representatives continue to have appropriate resources and support.
