Wolf set to unveil lighter futon mattress

HIGH POINT — Wolf Bedding, a major producer of futon mattresses, is set to unveil a cotton-based fiber cushioning material that the company says is lighter and more durable than pure cotton.
The new fiber, called Aerolife, also has greater resilience than cotton, which tends to shift and create flat spots in futon mattresses after repeated use, said company president Tony Wolf.
"The resilience is phenomenal," he said. "And the feel is noticeably different. It's the first real technological innovation this business has seen in quite a while."
Wolf's new showroom on the sixth floor of the International Home Furnishings Center has several futon mattresses cushioned with Aerolife.
He said the new fiber consists largely of cotton, but includes a blend of polyester fibers that reduces the weight of the mattress and adds resilience.
Wolf said the company has applied for a patent on the manufacturing process.
