Paris show to debut in New York
By Carole Sloan -- Furniture Today, October 14, 2001
PARIS — Maison & Objet, the twice-a-year home furnishings trade show here, plans to bring a smaller version of the market to New York in May.
The debut event is set for May 18-20, to run concurrently with the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the Javits Convention Center in New York.
The mini-Maison & Objet will be held at the The Piers on the Hudson River. Bus service to and from the Javits Center is planned, said Veronique Thouvenin, communications manager for Maison & Objet.
The New York show is intended to showcase the Paris event to buyers attending ICFF, and to encourage American resources to exhibit in Paris once or twice a year. American customers have been coming to the Paris show in growing numbers in recent years, with an increase of 6.5% this year over last, Thouvenin said.
More than 160 companies that show in Paris have indicated an interest in the first New York event, said Etienne Cochet, managing director of Maison & Objet. Many already are active in the U.S. market.
