FDC looking for Brinson successor
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, September 30, 2001
HIGH POINT — Executive Director Dawn Brinson has decided to leave the Furniture Discovery Center here at the end of October, and a search committee is looking for a successor.
"It's been a really educational, fun, enlightening five years for me," said Brinson, who since 1996 has run what is billed as the nation's only museum of furniture design and manufacturing. "It's just time for new challenges."
Brinson and six members of the Furniture Discovery Center's board are on the search committee, which already has received some good resumes, she said. The organization is looking for "someone with a number of different skill sets," she said, including financial management, fund raising, program development, public relations and the ability to supervise a staff of five.
A complete job description will be posted on the center's Web site, www.furniturediscovery.org, and ads will run in Furniture/Today and other publications.
Brinson said she had planned to leave the job last month but is staying on to help with the transition. She said she hopes to stay in the furniture industry but doesn't have specific plans.
Search committee members include Brinson, Kimberly Wray, Karen McNeill Harris, Charlotte Young, Steve Hodges, Jeff Williams and Kathy Wall.
